Not a ton of news this month, but definitely some things to watch out for:
From Otomate:
L.G.S – Shinsetsu Houshin Engi, another classical Chinese novel adaptation. I don’t know anything about the source material, but the setup is that in ancient China, there’s the human world, and then the ascetic world. In the human world, the good king Chuuou was made to do evil things by the machinations of Sotatsuki, so the ascetics decided to seal her. Because of her skill, Yousen was nominated to do this.
Yousen, the heroine, is regarded as a genius ascetic (sennin is hard to translate, I always think of them as wise men but obviously she’s not a man, and they seem to have special powers pretty often) and lives on Mt. Konron. She’s not very sociable, but is meek when talking to her teacher, Gyokutei Shinjin. She was also turned into a youkai somehow by her father as a young child. Apparently depending on your choices during the game, Yousen will either remain a sennin (light ending) or become a true youkai (shadow ending). I’ll do the characters once the seiyuu are announced.
Arabian’s Lost: Quinrose is redoing this for the PSP! I’m kind of excited for this, because I really liked this game way back when it was released for the PS2. It was my first Quinrose game and I loved the non-standard characters. You might recognize Curtis Nile from Crimson Empire, here you can actually get him! The art’s all updated too, which is good, although I’m not sure about Shark’s redesign. Tyrone definitely looks better though. The article in B’s Log doesn’t show Maisen at all, so perhaps his parts are being removed?
Also, the seiyuu for Abunai Koi no Sousashitsu (scheduled for May 31 release on the PSP) are announced:
Mikechi Masaomi (CV: Maeno Tomoaki)
Fujimori Kenji (CV: Kondou Takashi)
Kisaragi Kouhei (CV: Tachibana Shinnosuke)
Ogasawara Ryou (CV: Suganuma Hisayoshi)
Onose Aoi (CV: Morikawa Toshiyuki)
Hozumi Rui (CV: Miki Shinichirou)
Fujimori Takashi (CV: Narita Ken)
And there are screenshots of the different areas in Bakudan Handan which SOUND like they’re different types of minigames, which would be great. However I still can’t find any description of gameplay in articles or on the website, so I’m not going to assume anything.
That’s about it that I can see, of course there’s more info on several fandisks and upcoming games, but mostly just scene descriptions. Oh, and a new character in Jyuuzaengi, Bachou (CV: Sugita Tomokazu)

WHOOOO CHINA!! *is partially Chinese* XD; Still, I will admit I love ancient China and Japan to pieces and back so I won’t complain about those settings. I also love ancient Greece and the Middle East….but that’s a little off tangent XD;
I’m still waiting for Otomate to give out more info on that new game (the one I showed you the B Log scan for?) with the same artist as Beastmaster on board. It looks reaaaally interesting and it’s killing me that I can’t find more info T_T
BOOP BOOP TEXT-DUMP ALERT:
Yessssss more ancient Chinese stuff! So, sennin are probably best translated as something like “transcendents.” (You’re right that it’s hard to translate, geez. That said, it is generally a Daoist and/or folk-Chinese term, so wise men is a a bit too Western a term. Not your fault at all, just more of a problem I have with Western translations in general.) They’re essentially people who’ve achieved the Dao and become immortals, and it’s kinda hard to separate them from gods at times. They also tend to be hermits/ascetics (the character for “sen” [or "xian" in Chinese] is basically mountain and person stuck together), but usually have magical abilities as well. If I’m guessing the hanzi right, Yousen lives on Mount Kunlun, one of the big sacred mountains of China and often associated with Daoists. Not sure why Da Ji (I think) is being transliterated as Sotatsuki (I’ve seen her rendered as Dakki instead), but eh, Otomate.
OH MAN I just saw that Ma Chao had been announced for Jyuuzaengi! It’s like they can see who I want to appear~! (Just waiting on Kongming, now…) Ma Chao Mengqi was the son of Ma Teng, prefect of Xiliang waaaaay the heck in the northwestern boondocks of imperial China. Ma Chao was in fact part Qiang (a non-Han people generally considered barbarians by the Han) and was a terrifying duelist. He also had a bit of a revenge thing going on with Cao Cao (spoilers?). Gongsun Zan is also going to make an appearance; he was warlord over the eastern end of Northern China and was a fellow student of Liu Bei.
Oh wow, so Suganuma isn’t being typecast as shoutas anymore, just as… weird geniuses (Jiang Wei, Madarame Mizuki, and now a tsuntsun detective). Okay… XD
Regarding the Sengoku oni game, I believe Otomate said they’d wait until February to release more info on that ad.
Aaaand nevermind my ramblings about the transliteration of Da Ji’s name; Wikipedia tells me her family name was Su, and Hokusai rendered Ji as a different character, so I guess Sotatsuki makes sense.
Transcendents! That’s a good word. Not totally obscure but unusual enough that people won’t visualize something totally wrong (like with wise men).
And you know, whenever I read fake robot talking like “boop boop” I can’t help giggling, it’s like an involuntary reaction. That’s all, carry on!
I love ancient history in general…in fact LOVE.101 is supposed to be practice for a bigger game that’s set…someplace in ancient history (it’s a secret until I prove I can actually produce a game!).
Yup, like Julia mentioned, we have to wait till February (oh that’s tomorrow! but probably they mean Girl’s Style or B’s Log) to find out more about the new Sengoku game, but the heroine looks like a shinobi, and that’s enough to get me excited! She looks totally badass.
ARGH, WANT. God damn shipping costs. And the fact that the yen is relatively strong isn’t helping any right now either >_>
By the way Li, are you planning on buying the English version of Hakuouki? I was relatively surprised when I went around and quite a few people who have already played it just decided not to by the English version *sad*. I didn’t love the game, but I’d still buy it even if I hated it just to support Aksys >_<
Definitely, I’ve already pre-ordered the limited edition, and if it doesn’t come by the Friday I might go and try to buy it somewhere
I have several friends who are interested otome games but don’t understand Japanese, so that’s one reason, supporting Aksys is another reason, and also just to see what it’s like – maybe when I can read it faster I’ll actually pay attention to all the battle and strategy talk
I’m counting down the days until Abunai Koi no Sousashitsu, I love Gignosystem’s otome stuff on iphone/pod as I love the artist for most of their games! Still haven’t been able to get a pre order on AbuKoi, yet… >____> Loving the voice cast and I have a thing for Kansai-ben so I’ll be gunning for Fujimori Kenji~!
>.> I wish Aksys had released this in Europe, I would have picked it up day one but instead I’ve had to ask my US friend to import me a copy. . . Oh well, at least I can still support their otome endeavours in a way! Hopefully this will pave the way for future otome games being translated!
